I'm Moving to Madrid! Getting Personal

For those those who haven't heard the news via Instagram, I've made one of the most life-changing decisions in my life thus far- I'm packing up my bags and heading to the good old land of tapas and siestas. After countless of debates, arguments, and a few tears in between, I've decided to take a leap of faith, follow my heart, and move to Madrid. Studying abroad in Sevilla last year was one of the most rewarding and happiest moments of my life and I'm so excited to continue my (hopefully never-ending) love affair with traveling.

With that said, I've been obsessively looking at Madrid everything and came across a few things I'm looking forward to in the months ahead...

In Madrid, the supply of rooftop bars is plenty to go around and I am not complaining. With views like this one, who wouldn't participate?

Although I must keep the potato, egg, and carb intake under control, thinking that I'll be living in a culinary capital makes my mouth water. Mercado de San Miguel? Tapa bar crawls? Delicious, cheap riojas? Sign me up!
Mercado San Miguel? Tapenando? Riojas decantes? Yo quiero!

With El Prado, El Palacio Real, Museo de Reina Sofia, El Retiro, and Plaza de Cibeles just footsteps away, every person lucky enough to live in Madrid wakes up to history right at their fingertips. Craving Velazquez, Goya, and Picasso one day? Madrid has you covered.

I know I'll have my bad days, suffer through the dreaded Spanish bureaucracy, crave Chipotle, and miss home and loved ones so much it'll hurt. But thankfully the idea of exploring the world, immersing myself back into the Spanish culture, and living my own dream keeps me a little more sane. Sometimes taking the road less traveled can be the most rewarding, sometimes it's not. That's definitely a risk I'm willing to take.

Madrid, lez do this! See ya in August.
Vamos Madrid! Nos vemos en agosto.

Auxiliares vets or Expats in Madrid: what are some suggestions you have in regards to moving to Madrid? Any recommendations on where to relax, gyms to join, places to visit, drink, and most importantly, eat?!

  2. How awesome! I would love to visit Spain one day! While in Germany in the Spring, we met a group of American students studying in Seville. They were a lot of fun to talk to. Good luck on your move and thanks for linking up for Travel Tuesday :)

  4. Ooh! This sounds exciting. I hope you enjoy your stay in Madrid.
By the way, the picture of the dish that you have put up, looks so much like the Indian Pulao/Biryani. <3

  6. Hola Natalia! Primeramente, me encanta tu blog y instagram! Descubrí tu cuenta por medio de Devour Madrid 😍 I actually studied abroad for the year in Madrid two years ago and I remain just as obsessed as ever. So many ganas to be back. I hope you are loving your time there!

I know this post is kind of old and you've been in Madrid for some time now but I noticed you're a foodie so I just wanted to give some suggestions of my favorite rinconcitos :)

Casa Mono in Arguelles: Really awesome interior, perfect for a date, their menú del día is their best deal, otherwise can be pricy for dinner. I believe I tried their salmon and was very satisfied.

Taberna Malaspina near Sol: My absolute favorite place for tapas, you have to try the Pimientos de Piquillo, huevos rotos, combination plate of patatas bravas y aioli AND their mojitos are everything. The prices are very reasonable, but make sure you go with friends, portions are big!

-The Toast Cafe in Arguelles: for when you're homesick for American style brunch and an actual NICE burger. One of my favorite places to get a chill drink with a friend during the week, or take an intercambio for trivia. Also, their hummus plate is 👌🏽

-To quell your Chipotle craving there is always TIERRA around Madrid! My favorites were in Arguelles and Malasaña. Not as good but the next best thing, especially to satisfy my need for chips and guac . Pus their margs are bomb.

Ahh I could go on but this is already long. I'm actually trying to come back next year as an auxiliar, if you are still in Madrid I would love to meet up o salir a tomar algo ☺️
